Passion is an emotion. That’s what it is. So I hear clients say all the time, “I want to be passionate about what I do for a living.”
Passion is An Emotion
Hello, people of the world. It’s me, Christopher Lawrence with ChangeMyLifeCoaching.ca. Today I wanted to talk about the concept of passion in your career. So, here’s the thing. Passion is an emotion. That’s what it is. So I hear clients say all the time, “I want to be passionate about what I do for a living. “I want to be passionate about what I do for a living.” And I understand that. Here’s the problem with that. Passion is fleeting, just like all of our emotions. They come, they go. Sometimes they’re there, sometimes they’re not. So what I like to say is that actually we need to go beyond passion and focus on purpose over passion. Why? Because purpose has staying power. The purpose is the reason why we get up in the morning even if passion isn’t there.
Go Beyond Passion
So what I would say is you want to have purpose about what you do every day, and then when passion shows up, you’re good, you’re golden, right? ‘Cause passion’s like the icing on the cake. So when passion’s there it feels really nice, but when it’s not there, we feel like we’ve lost our way. But actually, if you focus on your purpose, then passion becomes irrelevant. Fun to experience, though. I love passion. I’m really passionate about what I do, too, but I also wanted to introduce to you, this is my book, “Go Beyond Passion.” So it’s all about this concept of discovering your dream job, and it gives you the components and everything you need to kind of do that. You can check it out on Amazon.ca or .com. Again, my name is Christopher Lawrence. I am with ChangeMyLifeCoaching.ca, and I would love to hear your thoughts on my book, but also your thoughts on purpose over passion. Talk to you soon, folks. Take care, bye-bye.
